The End Of The World As We Know It?? Not Quite!
Ok, I keep getting asked on various sites where I get my mine of information from, let’s just say I have a fascination with our beautiful planet and like to keep an eye on her as she “shrugs” at us now and then, so here follows a bunch of links to some pretty cool and interesting sites that you might also like to clip as favourites in your browser!
I NEED TO ADD HERE THAT INCREDIBLE THOUGH THE RECENT NEWS AND PICTURES FROM JAPAN HAVE BEEN, IT HAS ALSO BEEN AN HORRIFIC, SAD AND HUMBLING REMINDER OF JUST HOW POWERFUL OUR PLANET CAN BE, MY PRAYERS AND THOUGHTS GO OUT TO ALL THOSE AFFECTED.

Please DON’T let these give you nightmares, earthquakes do happen all the time, volcanos frequently burp, the weather happens, we cannot stop these events occurring ( please don’t start a “green” thread here), but we can marvel at natures sheer raw power and beauty, and when this has a negative impact on our fellow-man, we can try to help or at least sympathise with folks xxxxxxxx
Timeline2012 – Maybe a tad over the top BUT some interesting info nonetheless on all things disastrous
FEMA – Mainly useful to those in the USA, lists all current and predicted events there, but does have link to other areas
CIA World FactBook – Not disaster related but very interesting facts on ALL countries worldwide including geographical layout
World Contacts – Staffordshire Raynet have put together a great list here of ALL the useful contacts you could wish for worldwide should either yourself or family and friends get caught up in anything and you’d need to find out more.
Radiation Dosage Chart – Is American and possibly a little biased but useful all the same
Global Disaster Watch – An interesting blog with daily updates on anything disastrous occurring worldwide
MetOffice UK – UK up to the minute weather alerts
TornadoWatch – Mostly US-based severe weather and Tornado information
WMO – Shows severe weather events around the world
Solar Storm Watch – great fun site, interesting and YOU can get involved in the research too!
NASA – It kinda goes without saying this is an interesting site, this link takes you to a page where YOU could actually see the Space Station! Really you can, it’s so bright up there, no binoculars or special training needed, just the time from the site and a clear sky!
Spaceweather.com – has lots of info on what is happening “up there”, along with some fantastic pictures!
Earthview – A little complicated, but well worth a go! See our beautiful planet as she would appear to you in space!
SolarCycle24.com – Amateur site with some startling images and information…far from amateur methinks
Space.com – Fairly interesting commercial site on all things space related, especially asteroids!
USGS – Nice map of most parts of the world showing in a fool-proof way which volcanos are doing what, has frequent updates
Volcano Webcams – This great site has loads of links to webcams worldwide set on or near volcanos, definitely worth settling down with a cuppa for
Quake Prediction – Earthquake forecasts for San Francisco, Los Angeles and Japan
Yellowstone – seismic activity – and no, it doesn’t look as though she is going to “blow” anytime soon!
Worldwide Seismic Monitoring – frequent updates on a handy easy to interpret map
EarthQuakeBot – Set up by Bill Snitzer, here you can get links to Facebook or Twitter for as-it-happens quake info worldwide
